The new EPL season is almost upon us. Manchester City are hoping to follow up on their treble from 2022/23, but there is a group queuing up behind the Citizens looking to catch them this time around.
Here we analyse the contenders to win this year’s Premier League title.
Manchester City
Manchester City have won five of the last six Premier League titles, and will be looking to extend their good record again this year after winning the treble last season (not only did they win the title, but also the Champions League and the FA Cup).
Erling Haaland scored 36 goals in the Premier League, setting a new record, so it is not hard to see why his team are 1.729 to repeat the trick.
Last season, Pep Guardiola’s side managed to chase down Arsenal at the top of the table in relentless fashion. They beat the Gunners 4-1 in a match billed as a title decider and eventually won the league by five points.
We are now left to wonder what kind of impact losing İlkay Gündoğan and Riyad Mahrez will have on the team.
Arsenal
Arsenal led the Premier League for much of last year's season, but were eventually chased down by Manchester City.
The Gunners have added Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, and Kai Havertz to their squad, meaning their midfield will definitely be improved.
The young core of Mikel Arteta’s side, which includes Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale, and Gabriel Martinelli, will have to overcome their 2022/23 disappointment. They are 6.100 to go one better than last season and win the title.
Liverpool
After losing out on Champions League football for the second time in Jürgen Klopp’s reign, Liverpool have had a summer of squad rebuilding as they try to put their fifth-placed finish from last season behind them.
The new additions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have bolstered their midfield, and their youngsters, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, and Darwin Núñez, will improve with experience.
Alisson Becker is also arguably the best goalkeeper in the world, and could be integral to their success this season. Liverpool start at 8.430 to win the title, as they did in 2019/20.
Manchester United
Manchester United finished third last season, and have added André Onana as their new goalkeeper along with Mason Mount. They are also on the verge of adding exciting youngster Rasmus Højlund.
Erik ten Hag has impressed continually since his arrival and could surprise again. The Red Devils are 11.240 to win the Premier League title.
Newcastle United
Newcastle have had a quick turnaround in their fortunes since their takeover and finished fourth last season, returning to the Champions League spots for the first time in 20 years.
They have added Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes and just signed Southampton’s Tino Livramento.
Eddie Howe’s side could continue to progress rapidly, especially as they had the joint-best defensive record in the league last season, conceding just 33 times.
The Magpies are 17.370 to win the title, which would be their first major domestic trophy since 1955.
