I've considered a great deal
And still I walk away
With nothing to show.
Only different cities'
Gravel in my boots,
New foggy memories.
New interpretations of
Elementary assessments;
Old problems, new modes.
To be near to what is whole
When so much is distant
And fractured, this is
What we come back to —
Never having it any better,
Always needing it more.
For me, I seem convinced
If I sequence my dismay
In a cluster of lines,
I can smooth out the issue
Like a pie crust: mold it
To hold the contents
I envision in it. I can't
Wrangle it like a bull,
But I can give it color
Like it was a picture.
