If you have to take an oath of allegiance, congratulations! You are just one simple step away from becoming a US citizen. Once your application for citizenship is approved, and you have passed the citizenship test all you have to do is pledge the allegiance to the United States and you become a naturalize US citizen.
Now, you must be wondering what to expect at the oath ceremony.
Oat ceremony is an event where you will pledge allegiance to the United States either as part of an administrative ceremony or a judicial ceremony. After you take the pledge you will be issued your naturalization certificate. You can then take this certificate and apply for a US passport.
Once you have completed your immigration interview, you will be schedule for the oat ceremony. Sometimes it can happen the same day but usually you will have to wait a few months until you can attend the ceremony.
It is important that you attend the ceremony or reschedule it in advance.
On the day of the ceremony, arrive at least an hour in advance. You will need to check in with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) officer. The officer will go over your paperwork to re verify that you do qualify for citizenship. You will have to submit your documents including your original green card.
You will then be directed to the room where the oath will be administered. When you take the oath you basically pledge your allegiance to the United States over any other country. You declare that you will support and protect the US constitution. You agree to bear arms on behalf of the United States and to participate in non-combative military services and perform work of national importance when required by the law.
After you take the oath you will be given your naturalization certificate and that is it.
