What to do if you’re involved in an accident

When you are involved in a car accident, it is important to know all of your rights. You need to know that if you were injured, you can receive compensation for your injuries. What kind of compensation? That depends on the extent of your injuries.

If you suffered a concussion or other serious brain injury, then you may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses and lost wages. If there was significant damage to your vehicle, then you may be entitled to compensation for the cost of repairing or replacing that vehicle. If someone else caused the accident, then they should be held financially responsible for any damages they caused to either party involved in this car crash accident. A few things you should do if you’re injured:

  1. Check yourself for injury: Inspect your body for cuts or bruises and look over your clothes for damage like rips or burns. Also, check for any glass fragments embedded in your skin. If there are glass fragments stuck in your skin, don’t try to remove them yourself – just leave them alone until they are removed by a doctor or nurse at the hospital later on.
  2. Check other people in the car: Make sure everyone else involved in the accident is okay before leaving the scene of the accident. If someone else needs help call 911 for them to receive emergency services.
  3. Seek legal advice from an attorney who represents injury victims in car accidents. You need to ask yourself, “Is there a personal injury lawyer near me?” If you've suffered physical injuries or emotional trauma from being involved in an auto accident, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses through a lawsuit against whoever caused the crash — whether it was another driver, their insurance company, or both parties' insurers (this is called “tort liability”). A lawyer can help you determine whether your case has merit and how much money you might receive if you win at trial (or settle out of court).
  4. Check your insurance coverage. If you were injured in a car accident, check with your insurance company to find out what kind of coverage you have. This will help you know what types of expenses (if any) are covered by your insurance policy.
  5. Gather evidence about the crash and get witness information for your claim. It is important for anyone involved in an auto accident to gather as much information as possible about the crash so it can be used when filing a personal injury lawsuit against the other driver’s insurance company or another party responsible for causing the crash (like another driver or city).
  6. Get the contact information for witnesses (if applicable). Witnesses can provide valuable information about what happened during the crash or even see who might be at fault for causing it in the first place! If possible, get their names and phone numbers so that we can reach out to them later if necessary.
  7. Exchange information with other drivers: names, phone numbers, addresses, insurance companies, and policy numbers. Get business cards from witnesses who may have seen the accident (and write down their names).
