The skilled worker visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows certain workers to enter the country for a predetermined period of time. The holder of this type of visa is allowed to work in the US or UK while waiting for their application for permanent residence or citizenship to be processed.
The current immigration law requires that the worker visa applicant have a job offer in order to apply. However, british citizenship visas are being given to British Citizenship at discretion, meaning that applicants only need to have sufficient job skills and good moral character, which are not always an easy requirement to meet.
The worker visa or British Citizenship at discretion is usually granted for up to 5 years. At this point, the visa holder would need to apply for the extension of the visa or on completing the 5 year residency requirement, they may become eligible to apply for indefinite leave.
