Mr. Lal had just 2 remaining wishes. He intended to use his PF to get his daughter married in as lavish a way as possible, & with whatever remained he hoped to buy a small piece of farming land and spend the rest of his days tilling soil & communing peacefully with nature.
Mr. Lal had just stepped out this morning when he received a call on his mobile phone.
"Hello, Mr. Ratan Lal? This is Gaurav from OCICI Bank. I wished to speak to you regarding your account with us."
"Yes, please go ahead," Mr. Lal replied.'
"It appears that your Debit card is very old and the
Bank has issued new Debit cards to all its
customers, so I am calling to let you know that
your old card has been blocked."
"But why have you blocked it?" Ratan Lal was
confused.
"It is to safeguard your money sir.
Actually, your old card was magnetic and the newly issued cards
are all chip-based."
Mr. Ratan Lal recollected having read in the papers
recently that due to the fear of magnetic cards
getting cloned very easily these days, banks now,
were issuing chip-based cards.
"Alright, but when will I receive my new card? I
need to withdraw money, there is a wedding in my
family
"4 days!!? Well, why are you blocking this card
now then, can't you do it after I receive my new
card?"
"I'm sorry sir, but we have been instructed by the
bank to block all magnetic strip cards right away.
"Look you don't seem to understand, I am
extremely busy with some wedding preparations
right now and I do not have time to go to the bank
to apply for a new card. Let my old card remain
active." Ratan Lal sounded angry.
"Please don't get upset sir, hmmm, let me see if I
can do something for you," Gaurav tried to pacify
him while sounding like he was deep in thought.
"Yes, please do something."
After a few moments, Gaurav's voice came on the
line again, "Sir, I may be able to let you continue
with your old card for a few more days, however,
to do so I will require your permission."
"Yes, yes, you have my permission," Ratan Lal
said impatiently.
"No sir, just your verbal permission will not
suffice. I am entering your request into our system
now, you will receive an SMS shortly, please reply
with the numerical 1 to that SMS."
That was easy.
Mr. Ratan Lal was pleased that by
being stern he had managed to not get his old card
blocked after all.
He received an SMS and he immediately replied to
it with the number '1'.
"There you go then sir, your old card will now stay
active for another month." Gaurav signed off.
Mr. Ratan Lal went straightaway to an ATM and
withdrew Rs.1000. His old card indeed still
appeared to be active.
The next morning, Mr. Ratan Lal was lounging on
his sofa when Mr. Shukla dropped by.
"Oh, I tried reaching you on your phone, but could
not get through so I thought I would drop by."
"It's your daughter's wedding! You cannot be
lolling about!" Mr. Shukla said reproachfully.
"Yes, I know, Mr. Shukla, this Airtel network, it
has been giving me a lot of trouble of late," Mr.
Ratan Lal smilingly replied.
"Look, I don't have even one bar of the network
signal right now," Ratan Lal held out his phone to
show Mr. Shukla.
"Well, never mind, let's get out of the house,
maybe the signal will be better," said Mr. Shukla.
"Come on, let's go pay a deposit to the Tent man."
Mr. Shukla stood up.
"Yes, you're right, let's go. I will withdraw some
cash from the ATM on the way too." Mr. Ratan Lal
agreed.
At the ATM, Ratan Lal inserted his card and
requested for a withdrawal of Rs.10000.
His card popped out of the machine.
"Looks like this machine is out of cash,
" Ratan Lal
smilingly commented.
"Let me have a look, maybe you have entered your
PIN wrong."
"Oh dear, there appears to be very little balance
amount in your account," Mr. Shukla said,
"Ratan Lal ji, there is only Rs. 700 in your
account."
"What are you saying?
Just last week my PF has
been transferred to my account, I should have 6.5
Lakhs in there!"
"No, really, Ratan Lal ji, have a look for yourself."
"Quick, pull up the mini - statement," Ratan Lal
was visibly agitated now.
It was apparent from the mini-statement that Rs.
6.5 lakhs had recently been transferred online from
Mr. Ratan Lal's account.
This was the time he realised how he got scammed by the fake bank person that day.
Mr lal was smart enough and he reached out to his nearest police station and got his FIR registered.
Then contacted his bank and changed his number and blocked his cards.
Mr. Lal was lucky that he immediately reached out to bank and police and got his money bank.
If you ever fall in any of such crime report it on cybercrime.gov.in or report it your nearest police station.
This is a real story & part of the story is taken from Hidden Files
I hope you got the story and This is a case of "SIM Swapping" how your sim card can be cloned and the scammers can easily use not your bank account and transfer money, but also your social media, Aadhar and what not.
