The United States has a massive natural gas pipeline system that can deliver natural gas quickly and cheaply to and from virtually any location in the lower 48 states. Gas is delivered to utility service regions via 3,05,000 miles of transmission pipes and another 2.2 million miles of distribution pipes. The distribution system is made up of thousands of supply, receiving, and connecting points, hundreds of storage facilities, and about 50 natural gas export and import ports.
In addition to distribution through the nation's vast pipeline network, renewable natural gas (RNG) can be dispensed at production sites such as landfills or wastewater treatment plants with the capacity to clean and upgrade biogas (the gaseous product of the decomposition of organic matter). In the same way that traditional natural gas may be compressed or liquefied for use in automobiles, renewable natural gas may be compressed or liquefied.

Compressed Natural Gas Distribution
The nation's compressed natural gas (CNG) supplies are distributed mostly through existing natural gas distribution infrastructure.
Compressed natural gas (CNG) is used by the majority of natural gas filling stations. CNG is compressed on-site. Many companies also provide CNG via Virtual Pipeline Cng Tanker. CNG is used in light, medium, and heavy load vehicles.
Liquefied Natural Gas Distribution
Liquefied natural gas, or LNG, must be supercooled and stored as a liquid at -260°F before being converted back into a gas. LNG must be in a gaseous condition before entering the domestic pipeline distribution system and being delivered to the final consumer. Cars that operate on LNG are possible, although CNG cars are more common.
While CNG is available at nearly every natural gas filling station in the US, LNG is only available at a handful. Many LNG clients are fleets with their own private fueling infrastructure, although public LNG filling stations have sprung up in recent years. LNG is provided for transportation across the country by large-scale liquefaction plants, and LNG is delivered to stations via trucks.
