So, You Want to Take Care of Your Tattoo?

When it comes to using these items, I'm prejudiced as the co-owner of a tattoo aftercare firm. It isn't universally agreed upon whether or not they aid in the healing of fresh tattoos. If we didn't believe in tattoo aftercare's benefits, we wouldn't have launched our business.

Because you don't want to go crazy and add all kinds of chemicals that are unnecessary or may obstruct the healing process, you should use a mild spray soap for tattoos instead of a bar of soap for washing the spot. That's all the soap is for: organically cleaning the wound site! Keep your new tattoo clean to ensure healthy healing of the ink. It's possible to wind up with an infection that looks nothing like the tattoo you were hoping for if your wound doesn't heal properly. Soaps containing strong detergents should be avoided at all costs. Soaps that are laden with superfluous chemicals should be avoided at all costs. You don't need anything more than a light liquid spray soap. Ensure that anything that comes into contact with your tattoo, including your clothing and mattress, is well cleaned. Keeping it clean throughout the healing process has a significant impact on how quickly it recovers.

It is important to apply an aftercare salve to prevent skin peeling and irritation while the wound is healing. The soap should be used first, and then the salve should be administered. Again, be wary of strong chemical preparations, such as alcohol or compounds you haven't heard of before. Since alcohol dries out your skin, why would you use one of these? Salve should naturally soothe the skin.

Both products are often used for the first three to four weeks (the standard healing phase), but they may be maintained beyond that period as well. Keeping the region clean and sterile throughout the healing process will be beneficial to your health. You should avoid exposure to the sun during this period. Your Tattoo Aftercare Is a Death Sentence.

Consider ink for a moment.

Tattoos are an investment in time and money. Unless, of course, you're willing to shell out $150 for each session of five to ten laser tattoo removal treatments, as many people have done with me.

You want your tattoo to heal correctly if you want to maintain it for years and years in your skin. Tattoos may be made or broken by the healing process, something most people (even tattoo artists) don't realize.

A talented artist may still get your attention by offering antiquated aftercare goods, though. Many people have been doing it for decades and are still going strong. There is no guarantee an inexperienced tattooist will be able to properly care for your skin and provide a nicely healed tattoo if they overwork your skin.

90% of all tattoos have a period known as "hard-healing," and it's a significant concern. Scratching, rashes, pimples, itchy white lumps, and excessive peeling are all symptoms of this condition. What is the cause of this? Scabbing may be caused by a variety of factors, including overworked skin, a weakened immune system, and others.

As a rule, "healing" aftercare products are employed. These often include lanolin or other potentially harmful ingredients such as lanolin-based oils and creams, alcohol, food-grade dyes, mineral oils, and sea salt. When it comes to tattoos, none of those components work.

Here are the elements that may result in the scenarios described above.

Sheep's wool is used to produce lanolin. Allergies, pesticides, rashes, oozing, and skin infections are all possible side effects, and they also heighten one's susceptibility to the sun. Lanolin, if used internally, may produce nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Mineral oil, a byproduct of petroleum production, is a recognized carcinogen and laxative. Some of these substances have been linked to malignancies of the digestive system, bladder, and respiratory tract. They also deplete the body with vitamins.

Animal, plant, insect, and synthetic sources may all be employed to produce food-grade colorants. Several colorants are made from coal tar, which has been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals.

Alcohol and salt may dry up tattoos and harm them, even though they are purifying. As a result of their heating and burning properties, certain compounds should be avoided. "Pouring salt into an open wound" is a common expression.

If you needed tattoo aftercare supplies, would you go to your vehicle mechanic? Some of the above-mentioned chemicals are the tattoo equivalent of slathering it with motor oil. The simple conclusion is that you WILL get substandard tattoos if you employ subpar materials.

Why would you use a substance on your body's greatest organ if it causes sickness, diarrhea, or cancer? You may worry unduly about what will be left on your body because of "hard healing," which might leave scars. Everyone participating in a bad healing process is wasting a lot of time.

You spend a lot of time looking for a clean shop, a good artist, and even more, time having your artists make a permanent piece of art on your body. Why would you then sabotage the healing process by using a subpar aftercare product at this critical point?

After the third day, it is suggested that lotions include no fragrances or colors, so why would you use a "healing" salve that has ANY coloring (whether food grade or not)?

However, there is some positive news to report...

There is less to worry about when it comes to the healing process after spending so much time and effort on your design. If you want to ensure that your tattoo ink remains where it's supposed to, which is on your skin, you only have to manage one aspect of the procedure.

Would you trust a tattoo from an artist who has never had a tattoo themselves? No one would want to use a tattoo aftercare product manufactured by white-coated male tattoo artists without ink on their skin, right? To cure tattoos, old-fashioned "aftercare" products were not meant to be used. It's that easy. Old-school printers and ink cartridges are draining your ink supply and producing the issues outlined above.
