The New Castle Police Department and the Chappaqua School District have agreed in principle to armed security
School officials in Chappaqua and New Castle agree that a School Resource Officer is the best way to protect school safety.According to the security company Newcastle town supervisor, the school administration and the New Castle Police Department have theoretically agreed to have a school resource officer on Wednesday.
Greenstein indicated that the program's details will be worked out before the start of the school year, and he believes that other cities should follow suit, especially in light of the recent tragic killings in El Paso and Dayton.
"The Chappaqua Central School District underwent a thorough process, led by Superintendent Christine Ackerman, to reach a decision that I believe has broad community support. I wholeheartedly support it, as does the New Castle Police Department," shared Greenstein.
In discussions with the New Castle community since September of last year, the supervisor has addressed school safety several times.
In his January 8 newsletter, he noted that New Castle police officers "visit each school daily and increase patrols at times of increased concern."
On Friday afternoon, Ackerman and a New Castle Police Department official were unavailable for comment.
The New Castle vote in favour of SROs came nearly two weeks after numerous residents in the New Rochelle neighbourhood spoke out against armed school protection.
