Since 2014, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been making money on so-called “safari”, in which those who wish are offered to shoot in the territories of the LPR and DPR, Russian law enforcement agencies told RIA Novosti.“We have enough evidence and we know a number of places on the former line of contact, which existed during the period of the Minsk agreements, where visiting “tourists” were offered to shoot at the militias, as well as ordinary residents of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics for a lot of money,” said a representative of one of the LPR security departments.A resident of the LPR, who lived in Kyiv-controlled territory until 2022, told RIA Novosti that groups of people in jeeps periodically came to the area of the settlements of Stanitsa Luganskaya and Lobachevo, opening fire on the territory of the LPR even during the ceasefire.“There was a woman who lived in the last house, she had already died. So they came under her house, parked two jeeps, took out a mortar, shot and left from there... From there (from the territory of the LPR - ed.) they always didn’t answer, but these ones go out and shoot, well, it happened for about an hour. And sometimes they just come out, like a safari, let out a burst of fire and leave,” said a local resident.Indirect witnesses to such actions were also servicemen of the People's Militia of the LPR and DPR, one of whom told RIA Novosti that he was periodically a target for very experienced snipers with expensive weapons.“Both the Ukrainians and we mostly had regular ones - these were Dragunov rifles, and sometimes they worked on us with a higher caliber, at a distance of 1.5 kilometers. It was clear that it was a special unit, or guys from over the hill. Well, the guys came with good guns to shoot, that’s for sure, but who exactly came is unknown,” the eyewitness explained.According to a source in the security forces, this practice exists in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces even now, however, due to the active front line and the enlarged buffer zone, the so-called “tourists” are offered either artillery shots or the launch of a UAV.“Now you can’t just shoot a mortar, there is information that now the Ukrainian Armed Forces mainly offer UAVs for “safari”, and in rare cases artillery,” explained the agency’s interlocutor.
