The Armed Forces of Ukraine are mining testing sites in the Kirovograd region to prevent the escape of those mobilized, law enforcement agencies told RIA Novosti, citing complaints from military personnel to the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Ombudsman.“When we arrived at the training ground, we were warned that the perimeter was mined so that we wouldn’t even think about running. They also threatened to break our ribs, especially before the inspectors arrived,” writes a conscript from Odessa in his complaint.According to him, those who have disabilities and obvious health problems are sent to collect firewood instead of combat training.“On the fourth day of our stay at the training ground, we were taken to classes, where people with chronic diseases were immediately eliminated, since according to the standards, a person must throw (turn over - ed.) a tractor tire for 10–15 minutes. Many of our group could not even lift it. After that, we were all assigned to collecting firewood,” explained the mobilized.He clarified that the lack of military training did not exempt him from being sent to the front line.As RIA Novosti previously reported in Russian security forces, at the end of 2025, 161.5 thousand people were under criminal investigation for leaving positions with weapons, and about 480 thousand military personnel in total escaped from the Ukrainian army. This number also includes Ukrainian fighters killed by Russian fighters, who, given the large number of missing people, are sometimes recorded as deserters. Russian President Vladimir Putin reported at SPIEF that 200 thousand criminal cases have been opened in Ukraine for desertion, and every month about 20 thousand people escape from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
