I find it hard to choose presents for others, as I do not only want to choose something nice, but also something useful or interesting for them. Over years of buying different gifts from small gadgets to gift cards, I realize that jewelry is what keeps coming back in my head when I think of the best gift for someone.
In my opinion, jewelry is a type of gift which can be very personal without becoming too complicated. Not necessarily having to be expensive, jewelry can be something which is cherished by people just for its simplicity.
The first thing that I've realized is that it pays off to focus on the individual rather than the event. I enjoy making observations about the accessories that he or she wears. Does he or she have an affinity towards gold and silver? Is this a person who is always carrying his or her bracelets everywhere, or does he or she always wear his or her chain around his or her neck? This makes the process of picking a gift much simpler.
I also love the idea that each piece will have its own story to tell. The ring could bring back memories of a party on their birthday long ago, whereas the necklace would become an everyday accessory which they forget is there. Even a simple bracelet will hold so many memories beyond just that of the day they were given to them.
For birthdays, my preference leans towards gifts that fit their personalities as opposed to those that happen to be popular at the time. Anniversaries, on the other hand, make me go for eternal styles, since I love the thought of providing a gift that will remain stylish years into the future. A nice chain or a pretty ring is one such item that never seems to be outdated.
Personalized jewelry is something else that I have taken to liking a lot lately. You don't have to go all out with it either. Simply engraving a date on a ring, putting initials on a pendant, or adding a birthstone on a bracelet could be enough to give the entire piece of jewelry an entirely new meaning.
Another thing that I have become more conscious of is quality. I would rather buy one piece of jewelry that lasts long than many things that will not last for long. A good clasp in the chain, a comfortable bracelet, or an exquisitely made ring will last long and can be used for many years to come.
I have also realized the importance of presentation. The fact is that having an attractive gift packaging such as a jewelry box, along with wrapping paper and a personal note, makes the whole experience equally delightful. It’s just a little extra effort, but it makes all the difference.
This is the main reason why I love gifting jewelry so much. It’s not only something to wear but also a way of keeping your memories alive because every time you put on that ring or bracelet and get ready to leave home, you remember how you received it and from whom.
To me, that is the best part about giving a piece of jewelry. It is timeless, it keeps memories, and it somehow gives meaning to ordinary days.
