Dead Space - The best PS5 horror game January 2023

Dead Space, one of the top survival horror franchises, is still in limbo, with many assuming it has a future, but EA has finally come to its senses. Together with the survival horror category experiencing a renaissance of sorts and linear games as a whole appears to be an interesting prospect to publishers all across the board, EA has decided to take advantage of the opportunity when it's very hot. With designer Motive Studio's Dead Space remake, the franchise is in the limelight, and the return has been proven to be definitely worth the lengthy wait. Back in 2008, the original Dead Space presented what's considered one of the best survival horror titles ever produced, and right now, a decade and a half after its remake, it's done it again. It not only recreates the power of lightning in a bottle, but you'll find it manages to enhance the original in significant ways. It is a masterwork that's twice as long.

Story

If anyone performed the original game, the storyline is identical; however, fresh new dialogue as well as a voiced protagonist, and an improved auditory experience make the game at par with existing horror titles and enhance the entire feeling of dread inside the creaking walls of Ishimura. Headsets are your current best friend in this game (or the drug of choice), as there's nothing more terrifying than entering a room and hearing a shrieking sound from afar, and then hearing the sound get closer and closer to discovering there's a murderous beast only two feet away from people. Additionally, exclusively hearing Clarke grunt and breathe after outrunning a group of slashers as you try to refill your ammunition makes the feeling look and feel more and more raw and trustworthy.

Graphics

The game's visuals appear more spooky and enhance Ishimura's atmosphere. The better lighting effects and the way the fleshy areas glisten at certain angles bring the whole thing together. In case you thought the Necromorphs were freakishly looking already, you will see them differently whenever they're right up next to your face, trying to take your face. Improved graphics can also be used in fights, as shooting opponents can cause parts of their flesh and bones to break. Yes, you can still shoot at your enemies' limbs to take them away; if you miss – which is normal given the circumstances – your shots will give the false impression that they're causing damage, which increases your frustration in a game like this. Other enhancements improve the gameplay and alleviate several frustrations that the basic player encountered. The controllers now feel firm at all times, and your stomps and melee strikes are now more precise when you need them to be. Zones with zero gravity are significantly more enjoyable to navigate because they allow you to freely move around them without getting your camera stuck every time, as previously. Also, the game map has received an upgrade in 3D, and your current locator shows a more suitable sense of path pointing you toward the next place. Audio

On the subject of audio, a few actor voices are back, but not all of them. However, Gunner Wright, the original voice actor of Isaac Clarke, returns, and the character in the film is a bit more vocal, as in the two sequels to the original. Gunner Wright puts in an outstanding performance, as do all of the other actors. I am aware of lovers that prefer a more silent protagonist, but again, that preference will be dependent on the person.

Game Play

For experience, players are typically tasked with exploring the halls of the Ishimura to complete tasks that may lead to an escape. The maze-like halls are a challenge, and the design is unique in that it incorporates landmarks that enable you to understand where you are. Trams connect the areas, but the experience is similar to that of a Metroidvania game, in which you gain new abilities and cards to travel to other areas. On that note, when playing this game, users have a lot of freedom. No matter where their marker says they should go, they're free to travel wherever they'd like, which could trigger more enemy happenings. However, there are precious resources scattered about. Shop for the latest products within our Best Xbox One games ranges at the lowest prices.

Bottom Line

Dead Space is an accomplished remake that not only adds fresh life to an old game but also paves the way for more entries in the series at some point. While a lot of the recreation will probably be familiar to people who have played with the original, the important updates and innovations make a huge difference to ensure that the overall experience is brand-new, trendy, and unpredictable. So, whether you are currently a Dead Space enthusiast or a novice at the series, this game is excellent and well worth the time and money, as long as you've got the nerves for it. For some, it's going to be a potential early play of the season winner.
