Testing out Telescope.ac

Telescope.ac is a relatively new minimalist publishing tool in the tradition of Medium, but without the annoying commercial aspects of the more established platform.

As you can see it is web based and the interface is very clean and responsive, having been written in the highly scalable Go language. In this aspect it is very similar also to Write.as.

Advantages of the platform:

  • Minimalist interface
  • Fast & scalable Go language
  • Image hosting (File size and storage limits are not clear)
  • Free accounts are fairly unresticted in terms of features.
  • Multiple blogs enabled for free accounts
  • Custom domain support implemented
  • Blog subscription feature implemented

Disadvantage:

  • Newly setup platform - Many essential features are missing or still being implemented.
  • The development team consists of a single person, literally a one man show. There is no assurance of business continuity should anything untoward happen to the sole developer.
  • There have been many instances of development work grinding to a halt due to issues with the developer’s Macbook.
  • Only 3 days free trial allowed for the pro account, hardly enough time to explore the features.
  • No FAQ provided at the website.
  • Comments feature not implemented yet.
  • Developer is silent on SEO optimization of posts and articles
