Definition of painting
Painting is the act or process of applying paint. Paint can create works of art known as painting, or it can be used in practice as a protective coating or a form of decoration. Paintings are a form of visual art that captures the expression of thoughts and emotions on a two-dimensional surface.
Artists use elements of form, color, line, tone and texture in unique ways to create images that express feelings of movement, volume, space and light - traditionally on a flat surface.
A painting can represent a natural scene or object, depict a story, or be completely abstract.
Beginning of painting
Paintings are one of the oldest known forms of visual expression. The oldest paintings are probably about 40,000 years old. Some of the oldest Neolithic paintings can be found in the caves.
Prehistoric cave paintings have been found in Western Europe and Indonesia. However, painting has become part of the history and culture of all countries of the world. The original cave paintings, as unfinished, had only a few color pigments available to the original artists. These early cave drawings are considered more instructive and were created for medicinal purposes.
Over time, the tools and media available to artists became more advanced, and paintings moved from the cave walls to paper, canvas, pottery, and wood.
The theme of the paintings has expanded and these works of art have become particularly decorative. Drawings can be maintained, collected and displayed for added enjoyment. Painting techniques
Painting has evolved over many centuries and includes a wide variety of styles and techniques. Some of these painting techniques are traditional, others unusual or new.
Painting techniques are usually not described by the materials used, but by the way the colors are used. Thus, although many techniques or styles are mentioned in the material, what really characterizes the style of painting is the length and direction of the strokes and the mixing of colors.
Many modern and contemporary paintings can also be widely used
techniques and media in a work of art. For example, Angel Accardi's painting "Flowers on Black" uses oil, acrylic and ink.
