Obria Medical Clinics Provides Affordable Pregnancy Testing

Obria Medical Clinics provides affordable pregnancy testing, STD testing and treatment, ultrasound, and well-woman care for women in Fort Dodge. Services are billed to insurance providers or offered on an income-based sliding fee scale for those without insurance. No one is turned away for inability to pay.

Obria Medical Clinics is an anti-abortion, largely nonprofit group that promotes "natural family planning." This method of birth control, which relies on tracking your menstrual cycle, is generally less effective than hormonal contraception.

Pregnancy ultrasound Oregon city has received federal funding, which helps provide low-income women with "a broad range of acceptable and effective family planning methods." It is not clear how much money gets from the government. But Obria Medical Clinics' website and public-facing materials seem to take an approach that is largely calculated to court a non-religious millennial audience interested in "wellness" or "natural remedies."

According to the organization's website, Obria Medical Clinics offers "abortion pill reversal," a technique that involves taking progesterone after the first pill in a regimen of abortion medication. But Huling says there is no proof that this method works, and it's a "do-it-yourself" procedure that could lead to complications for patients.

Obria Medical Clinics' website also includes a link to an app called "Femm," which teaches fertility awareness. This app encourages women to track their monthly menstrual cycles and suggests that avoiding sex during ovulation days and using condoms can prevent pregnancy.

This is a highly problematic app that intentionally sows doubt about hormonal birth control. The Center for Reproductive Rights notes that it is a "deceptive marketing campaign" and calls it "an unproven and dangerous gimmick." Obria Medical Clinics also doesn't offer a comprehensive list of reproductive health resources, including information on the risks of aborting a baby with the birth control pill.
