It's been a long time. Too long, honestly — and that's the first thing this all is about.
For the past couple of years Telescope barely changed, updates were rare, and some of you wrote to ask whether the project was still alive. It was — but the old codebase had reached the point where every small fix was a struggle. So instead of patching, I made the hard call: rebuild the entire platform from the ground up. That took far longer than I ever wanted, and if you stayed with me through the silence — thank you.
The new big release is focused on the writing experience: a new editor, live theming, subscriptions, RSS, custom domains, a much faster site, and a cleaner network. Here's everything:
A brand-new editor and dashboard. The whole writing and management experience has been redesigned — faster, cleaner, and much more pleasant to live in.
Privacy-first analytics, built in. See views, unique readers, countries, referrers, and devices for every blog — cookieless and GDPR-friendly by design. No banners on your blog, no reader tracking, IP addresses are never stored. Pro plans get full history, detailed breakdowns, CSV export, and API access.
A public API. Automate your publishing with personal API keys — create posts, manage drafts, upload images. Every plan includes a monthly credit allowance. We’ll soon create more integrations and more examples of how to use it all, stay tuned for that.
Themes and deeper customization. Fonts, colors, layouts, dark mode — and on Pro, your own custom CSS for full control.
Newsletter delivery, refined. Readers subscribe by email (double opt-in) or RSS; new posts go out automatically, weekly digests included.
Your content is truly yours. One-click JSON export of any blog, and real deletion — when you remove something, it's gone from our servers, files included.
A cleaner neighborhood. We've swept out the spam that had been piling up on the old platform and added protections to keep it out — so being hosted on Telescope means being in good company again. We’ve added extra spam defenses: captcha and trust-gating on sign-up, live spam scoring at publish, a moderation queue that groups flagged content by account with one-click takedowns, and automatic removal of the most obvious spam.
In addition to that, Telescope now runs exclusively on EU-hosted infrastructure, with uptime monitoring and a public status page, scheduled database backups, and clear Privacy Policy and Terms pages.
