I wonder if it is possible to build an electric car? I don't mean, is it possible for a manufacturer to build such a vehicle – of course, they can. But is it possible for you or I to build a car of this type?
According to online articles – and I agree there is a huge mishmash of stuff in that arena, ranging from the technically adept to the crazy and outlandish – it is possible to to build an electric car, maybe not from scratch, but using a purchased conversion kit. This will convert an existing petrol or diesel car and turn it into an electric-only vehicle.
The important thing to note is that all electric vehicles (EVs) use an electric motor instead of an internal combustion engine. The essential mechanisms of an electric car are vastly different to those of a traditional vehicle, therefore. It does not use liquid fuel and as a consequence does not need a fuel pump, fuel line, or fuel tank.
Similarly, the vehicle does not emit exhaust fumes, so does not need a tailpipe or any related apparatus. The integration of an electric motor, new battery, and associated electronic control equipment can mean that a car becomes significantly heavier in weight. This poses a problem, but it's one that can be remedied by, for example, using advanced polymer coatings, a tribological surface engineering solution, to reduce friction and energy losses.
This new solution is invaluable and would form a necessary component part when converting your vehicle.
