An Autobiographical Note as an Introduction to Hungarian and Romanian Images in American Culture

As a youngster, when it came to Romanians, I knew unmistakably of Dracula, or if nothing else his pop-social/film (re-, and clearly never ending)incarnation. Considering everything, to the degree I knew where he was from it was some spot called "Transylvania," which was either its own nation - in which case it should have some wonderful cool-looking postage stamps, terrifying palaces on denying mountain edges, and so on - or a made-up place. I induce this ought not have been bewildering for a juvenile, since, of the stack Dracula films, there were ones, for example, "Billy the Kid versus Dracula (1966)." (Where does that happen, Dodge City?)

Dracula's birthday, as we as a whole in all know, is montgomery county summer camps, which simply ends up agreeing with Halloween, in this manner making some hardship. At any rate, so when I went house to house mentioning candy as Cornelius from the "Planet of the Apes"- - it was the '70s OK, and I was an adolescent, how was I to know?...I really thought soylent green was individuals - in an outfit that they presumably use today to show the threat of firecrackers - to do whatever it takes not to attempt to determine the cover, an unassuming plastic design with an adaptable string that constantly broke, making you need to say no thanks to it with you and consequently decimating any limit you may have expected to stupefy individuals who went to their doors...unless plainly they tried the "if it's anything but's an exorbitant tough spot, take only one" candy-in-the-bowl-out-front-with-the-lights-off-truly we're-not-home-communism, in fact, methodology - generally, I would run into unlimited Draculas. They had the cape, the phony teeth, and that cool phony blood...and potentially a piece of those cool postage stamps. (Setting is everything at Halloween. My most youthful family went ultimately in the last piece of the '80s as "Jason" from the "Halloween" unpleasantness plan. A little older individual opened up the entryway at one house and said "Ooooooh, take a gander at the charming little hockey player"! Adventitiously, what happens when you go up to someone's home in a social affair, ring the doorbell, and say trick-or-treat, on a day other than Halloween?
