Animals suffer from a variety of diseases. These diseases act as a disability of the normal state of animals. Diseases interrupt the day to day activities of animals. Animal diseases pose a threat to many things such as food security, national economies, food safety, biodiversity and even the rural environment. Diseases of animals will always remain a concern as they cause economic losses and the possible transmission of any such infections to humans. The branch of medicine that deals with the study, prevention and treatment of diseases in domesticated animals as well as in wild animals is known as veterinary medicine.
