There are several ways an electric car can be charged and many different electric
car chargers to choose from.
Charging station at home in the garage
To avoid removing the charging cable from the car and connecting and
disconnecting every morning, you can invest in a charging socket with a fixed
cable or socket for the new electric car socket. Charging sockets also allow for
faster charging and are a more robust and safer solution than a standard socket.
Fast charging
Fast charging stations are the electric car's answer to petrol stations. Here you
can charge the battery of a typical electric car in a short period, longer when it is
cold. Fast chargers always have a fixed cable and there are several types of
connectors for fast charging depending on which electric car you have.
Avoid ordinary sockets
An ordinary socket should only be used exceptionally and briefly for charging an
electric car, this can quickly become dangerously hot and lead to fire. In other
words, this is not recommended.
If it is used, however, it is recommended to hang a basket or hook for weight
relief at the contact. It is important to keep in mind that the control box on the
charging cable can weigh up to two to three kilos, this can not withstand the
socket. If the socket is to be used permanently for charging an electric car, it should
have a dedicated current course. Here it may be relevant to set up a separate course only for the electric car.
New rules in NEK-2014, courses for charging an electric car from a normal
schuko socket shall be a maximum of 10 amps and equipped with a ground fault
