I remember when it meant something to be "with-it". You were "with-it" when you wore the right gear, listened to the right bands and mixed with the right people. "With-it" was cool long before cool became cool. I assume the "it" was the cool essence and you managed to remain close to it. It was quite effortless, like 'being in the flow'. It carried its own momentum. These days it takes a lot of hard work to look Worried and Important. You have to speak on your mobile in public, with a firm jaw and large eyes. Back then, when you were "with-it", you radiated worry and importance without being aware.
