Interviews with Anonymous Employees of National Bank of Abu Dhabi
Question: How could you define the working environment in National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD)?
Response: I have been working here full-time for a couple of years. I firmly believe that NBAD offers a highly favorable working and learning environment. The bank employs people from all parts of the world who bring the best knowledge and practices.
Question: Is National Bank of Abu Dhabi facing liquidity crisis?
Response: Well, NBAD is not facing any serious liquidity crisis currently. However, it is true that financial institutions in the Gulf region are experiencing tightened liquidity and moderate profit margin due to fluctuations in oil prices. Actually, the banking facilities in the region are focusing on the cost reduction.
Question: What do you think about the intentions of NBAD to merge with other banks and financial institutions?
Response: It is evident that financial institutions in the Middle East are facing liquidity challenges due to the prolonged fluctuation in oil prices. However, I believe that it is not necessary for NBAD being the biggest lender bank in the UAE to initiate the merger as the only possible solution to its liquidity issues. This decision will affect its operations because the management will definitely change.
Question: How will National Bank of Abu Dhabi benefit from the planned merger? Can it bring any harm to the bank?
Response: The intended mergers will initially improve the liquidity of the bank. However, I doubt whether this strategy will bring long-term advantages. The mergers will reduce healthy competition among the banks affecting negatively the delivery of services. The bank needs strong competitors to continue to offer quality services to its clients.
Question. What do you think about the NBAD’s rapid growth?
Response: Today, the world is becoming a small village in terms of economic development. Therefore, globalization and internationalization are crucial to every institution that wants to remain stable in the 21st century. I think it is healthy for the bank to open branches outside the UAE. This will enable it to grow its customer base and to stop dependence on oil revenues.
Question: Is National Bank of Abu Dhabi facing any management issues at the moment?
Response: Not at all. The leadership of the bank is doing great now. However, there could be management challenges after the planned mergers. It is also worth noting that the expansion of the bank provokes several challenges because of the changes in the management boards.
Question: What do you think about the fact that NBAD has focused on IT to reach its expansionary goal?
Response: This is an excellent decision. The business world is moving fast. IT has become an important aspect in every institution. Besides, modern technologies will help the bank to monitor its global activities and to maintain excellent delivery of services.
