Keratin is a protein that makes up hair, nails, skin, horns, hooves, feathers, wool, etc. Keratin is a naturally occurring substance that is present in all animals and some plants. It is a major structural component of these organisms and provides them with their shape and structure. Keratin is a complex molecule composed of two chains of amino acids linked together. These chains are called polypeptides. There are three types of polypeptide chains in keratin: Type I, II, and III. Each type of chain contains different amounts of cysteine and proline. Cysteine is a sulfur-containing amino acid that gives keratin its characteristic odor. Proline is an imino acid that helps give keratin its strength.
The first step in keratin treatment review treating hair with keratin is to remove any existing hair color. You should use a shampoo that does not have sulfates or parabens. Shampoos containing sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) strip away natural oils from the scalp and cause dryness. Parabens are added to many shampoos as preservatives, but they may cause allergies. If you are using a conditioner, make sure it doesn't contain SLS or parabens. After washing your hair, apply a small amount of conditioner to damp hair. Leave it on for about 5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
Next, take a comb and gently brush out the remaining product. Do not rub vigorously or pull at the hair. Instead, just brush it out. Use a wide toothcomb if possible. Don't worry if the hair looks slightly frizzy after brushing. That's normal.
After brushing, the towel dries your hair. Then, apply a small amount (about 1/8th cup) of keratin solution to each section of hair. Be careful not to get any on your face. Let it sit for about 30 minutes. Rinse well with warm water. Repeat this procedure once per week until your hair is completely white.
