With the new F-150 Lightning, Ford is presenting an electric version to its bestseller pickup from spring 2022. The classic Ford F-150 was the top-selling car in the United States for almost a century. A success that the electric version should build on. For this, the carmaker refrains from optical experiments and relies on familiar proportions and a newly developed electric drive. As with the normal F-150, there is an aluminium body and independent wheel suspension as well as the four driving programs: normal, sport, off-road and traction. The newly acquired frunk holds 400 litres in the F-150 electric pickup truck.
The Ford F-150 Lightning attracts attention with its low prices. The basic F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck version has a price of just under $ 40,000.
While the previous F-series pick-ups had gasoline and diesel engines with a power range of just under 300 to over 700 hp, the F-150 Lightning is powered by electric power. The basic model delivers 318 kW (432 hp), the larger version, on the other hand, has an impressive 420 kW (571 hp) and 1,050 Nm of torque. For this tremendous performance, the Ford F-150 is required to be on the road with an all-wheel drive and can pull trailers weighing more than 4.5 tons. No other electric car in the world can currently do that. From a standing start, it should accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 5 seconds.
With the basic battery package, ranges of around 370 kilometres are possible. The large battery pack helps the F-150 Lightning to travel almost 482 kilometres without stopping charging. At the home charging station, the F-150 charges for almost 50 kilometres in one hour; a full battery charge takes up to eight hours at home. It is significantly faster at a 150 kW fast-charging station: 100 kilometres in ten minutes or from 15 to 80 % in 41 minutes.
The interior of the Ford F-150 Lightning is just as powerful as it is on the outside. In addition to the usual large interior space, there is also a 12-inch instrument display and a 15.5-inch multifunctional screen in the middle of the dashboard. Thanks to over-the-air updates, the infotainment should always be up to date and keep the F-150 digitally on the cutting edge. The Ford uses the Sync 4 system from the Mustang Mach E.
The F-150 electric car is more than a normal pickup with an electric drive. With external power plugs for camping or crafts, it is a huge power bank. In the basic version, the power plugs offer 2.3 kilowatts, and the top models 9.6 kilowatts for the supply of tools, cooling units or the caravan. It is important to Ford that the rustic pick-up retains its well-known robustness and off-road mobility despite its electric drive, which has made it so popular for decades with customers all over the world and especially in the USA.
