Opel, the German brand of Stellantis, has unveiled two new electric vehicles that combine top technologies with comfort and electrically driven freedom. The new Opel Combo Electric and Opel Zafira Electric are ideally suited for leisure, long-distance travel, or as shuttle vehicles. Depending on the variant, the Combo offers space for up to seven people, and the Zafira even comfortably accommodates up to nine occupants.
A Bold and Pure Design
The two newcomers immediately make a statement with a redesigned front. For the first time, both vehicles proudly wear the bold and pure Opel Vizor, the German brand’s characteristic brand face. The Vizor extends seamlessly into the LED headlights with the Opel Blitz in the center. And in the fully digital cockpit, the driver and front passenger can look at intuitive infotainment systems with 10-inch color touchscreens based on the Snapdragon Cockpit platform from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. Wireless smartphone connection and inductive charging are included.
The new models also feature a distinctive rear design with LED taillights that form an arrow pointing upwards. The arrow symbolizes progress and innovation. The rear also houses a high-resolution 180-degree camera that provides a clear view of what’s behind.
A Long Range and A High Load Volume
The battery-electric Combo Electric, in particular, offers travel-friendly and resource-saving mobility without compromises. On the one hand, thanks to the practical underfloor location of the 50 kWh battery, it has exemplary space in the passenger and luggage compartment. Depending on the seating configuration, it offers between 775 (L1) and 4,000 liters (L2; up to roof) of load volume. The unique access option to the cargo area via a separately opening window in the tailgate and horizontally foldable passenger seat backrest is particularly practical when loading a vehicle.
On the other hand, thanks to its high energy density of 300 kWh per tonne (WLTP), it can travel up to 330 kilometers (WLTP) on a single charge. This means that drivers can enjoy long-distance trips without worrying about running out of power or finding charging stations.
The Zafira Electric is even more spacious than its predecessor. It can accommodate up to nine passengers in three rows of seats or seven passengers with three individual seats in the second row. It also offers a load volume of up to 4,900 liters (L2; up to roof). The Zafira Electric has a range of up to 350 kilometers (WLTP) on a single charge, which is enough for most daily journeys.
A Lot of Safety Features
The new vans also come with plenty of safety features that make every journey more relaxing. These include equipment such as:
- Full LED headlights with Intelli-Lux LED Matrix Light that adapts to traffic conditions and road signs
- Adaptive cruise control with a stop-and-go function that maintains a safe distance from other vehicles
- Lane departure warning with lane keeping assist that helps drivers stay in their lane
- Blind spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert that warns drivers of approaching vehicles when changing lanes or reversing out of parking spaces
- Park assists with a remote control that allows drivers to park or exit parking spaces without leaving their seats.
- Emergency brake assist that applies maximum braking force if necessary during hard braking situations
- Driver drowsiness detection that alerts drivers if they show signs of fatigue while driving
- A head-up display that projects key information onto the windscreen for easy visibility while driving at night or in low-light conditions
- Surround view camera system that provides a bird’s eye view of what’s around the vehicle from four different angles for better parking maneuvers or avoiding obstacles.
A High Level of Connectivity
The new models also offer best-in-class connectivity with wireless smartphone connection via Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™ via USB-C port or wireless charging pad integrated into the instrument cluster display screen for hands-free smartphone operation while driving. The steering wheel buttons and gear lever paddle shifters are now located behind the steering wheel for more intuitive operation while driving. The infotainment systems also offer access to online services such as real-time traffic information, weather forecasts, fuel prices, parking availability, and online navigation with live maps. The vehicles also support over-the-air software and firmware updates, ensuring they always have the latest features and functions.
