1. Consider The Weight Of The Fabric:

It is one of the most important things if you want to choose the perfect fabric for your garment. The unit of measuring the weight of the fabric is GSM (grams per square meter) and with the help of this unit you can easily identify that which fabric is heavy and which fabric is light. After reading this, most of the people have questions in their mind, How they can measure the weight of the cloth in the market? If you also have the same question in your mind then don’t worry there is no need to measure the weight of the fabric in market, we give you the list of the fabrics according to their weight and thickness so that you do not face any problem while choosing the fabric.

A.) Light Weight Fabrics: Organza, Chiffon, Voile, Taffeta, and Single Jersey.

B.) Medium Weight Fabrics: Velvet, Cambric, Sateen, Chambray, Interlock Jersey.

C.) Heavy Weight Fabrics: Denim, Wool Felt, Hessian, and Twill.

2. Test The Strech Of The Fabric:

When you are going to choose the fabric for your designer dress then it is very important to test the elasticity of the fabric because the elasticity of the fabric can easily change the fitting of the garment on your body. Now, the question is, How we can calculate the stretch of the fabric? You can simply measure the stretch of the fabric by a ruler, suppose you take a cloth of 5 cm, then hold the one end of the fabric on the starting point of the ruler and then stretch the other end of the fabric until you face the opposing force on your hand suppose, the fabric stretches to 7.5cm then it means it can easily stretch 2.5 cm past its original length, and if you want to calculate the elastic capacity of the fabric in percentage then you can use this formula.

Elasticity Formula = Amount it stretched / original length of Fabric X 100

= 2.5/ 5 X 100 = 50%.

3. Check The Drape Of The Fabric:

It tells you about the flowing capacity of the fabric. In layman language, we can say, stiff fabric has less drape and fluid fabric have more drape, most of the people ignore this term that’s why be careful if you want to find the perfect fabric for your designer dress. Beginners are usually confused between the weight and drape of the fabric, but they both are different things that differently affect the final look of your dress. Suppose if you want to make a beautiful skirt and if you choose the cloth which is thin and high drape then the skirt float away from your body but if you choose thick and stiff fabric then you will get a tight-fitting skirt or well structured skirt.
