How many times can I port my mobile number?

Since the time there has been an issue around TRAI’s guidelines on MNP (mobile number porting), subscribers have been relieved from the hassles of changing their mobile numbers every time they switched between operators.

Many subscribers who want to port may want to know how many times they can port in a given time or how much time gap is allowed to switch from one operator to another.

Good news is: There’s no restriction on the number of times one can switch between mobile operators. For instance, if you’ve been on Airtel for a while and want to switch to Vodafone, you have the complete liberty to switch, provided you had been on Airtel for a minimum of three months.

For your convenience, we will give you a list of the latest TRAI’s porting rules.

· The user who wants to port to another operator should stay active on his current mobile network for at least 90 days

· The mobile number sought to be ported is not sub-judice under any court of law

· TRAI says, “There should not be any contractual obligations to be fulfilled by the subscriber as per the exit clause provided in the subscriber agreement

· Postpaid subscribers must clear all their outstanding dues with the current service provider for the bill issued as per the normal billing cycle, failing which, their numbers won’t be considered for MNP

How to port your number:

· In order to port your number, just send an SMS to 1900, stating PORT <10 digit mobile number> in the message body

· You’ll shortly receive your UPC as an acknowledgement, which is to be provided while applying for MNP

· TRAI will generate your UPC only if you are eligible for MNP and if you have fulfilled the above porting rules.
