With just days to go before Boris Johnson is expected to win the Tory leadership contest, a number of senior Conservatives are busy perfecting their U-turn skills.
First we had Amber Rudd dropping her opposition to a no-deal Brexit, making her a reasonable bet for one of the great offices of state that Johnson (and his opponent Jeremy Hunt) promised in last night's Sun debate. Today it was Michael Gove's turn, with the Environment Secretary saying Johnson would make a 'great' prime minister. This is the same Michael Gove who famously turned on Johnson in the 2016 leadership contest, saying he was 'not capable' of building a strong team or 'leading the party and the country in the way that I would have hoped'.
