The newest location of one of the funeral directors Dundee in the East Midlands with the longest history has recently opened in Derby. This makes the total number of locations for the company seven.

This past week saw the official opening of the Chaddesden location of Wathall, which was performed by two city councillors who represent the Ward: Jonathan Smale and Jerry Pearce.

Sarah Yeomans, who has worked for the family business for many years, will be in charge of managing the new location on Nottingham Road.

Wathall's has been in business since 1858 and currently operates a number of locations throughout Derbyshire and Staffordshire. These locations can be found in Allestree, Alvaston, Ashbourne, Borrowash, Burton-on-Trent, and Macklin Street in the central business district of Derby.

According to Cllr. Jonathan Smale, "It is fantastic to see a well-known family business expanding in the city, and in particular into the Chaddesden area."

"The business community along Nottingham Road is thriving, and I have no doubt that Wathall's will receive a cordial welcome from the establishments in the immediate area."

Bec Wathall, who is the sixth generation of her family to work for the company, is the business development manager who oversaw the building's renovation. She is also a member of the sixth generation of her family to work for the company.

She stated that "There has been a great deal of interest in the official opening," particularly after we uncovered the old post office sign that was located above the front door during the refurbishment.

"We are overjoyed with the refurbishment results, which has provided us with a cozy and easily accessible environment in which families can feel at ease as they pre-plan and arrange funerals and visit their loved ones in the Chapel of Rest. We are delighted with the results of the refurbishment."

"We also have sample memorials and all the information available for our sister company Art Stone Memorials to enable families to choose a lasting memorial to their loved one – whether that is for their own garden or the cemetery where they are laid to rest," Art Stone Memorials' website states. "We are here to serve you."

"I have wanted to open a branch in Chaddesden for some time now in order to better serve the local community here in Chaddesden who have previously come to any of our other Derby branches," the managing director Helen Wathall MBE added.

"We are especially thankful to the two local councillors for their warm welcome and well wishes as we prepare to become a part of the Chaddesden business community," the company said in a statement. "We are looking forward to becoming a part of the Chaddesden business community."
