As with all speaking tasks in the PTE, you get 6 to 7 PTE Read Aloud questions in the exam, and your score is based on the content, oral fluency, and pronunciation of each question. PTE Read Aloud questions are designed to test your ability to read and speak as a native speaker of a text about a particular academic subject. Since there may be some tongue-twisting words, pronunciation and oral fluency are important factors here. It is essential that you are good at reading and that you speak with a purpose as if you are explaining to someone in order to score well in PTE Read Aloud. It is also necessary to speak fluently, naturally, modulate your voice, and make appropriate pauses and stress appropriately. You need to read aloud for just 35 seconds so that your last sentence doesn't get cut off.
In addition to the instructions and task prompt at the top of the PTE Read Aloud task, you will need to put 40 seconds into reading the given text natural and clearly in 40 seconds. Despite not explicitly stating 40 seconds to prepare, you can still see the progress of the Audio recorder (display just below the Task prompt), which indicates “Beginning in 40 seconds” at the start of each question. At the bottom, the actual text that needs to be read appears. PTE Read Aloud task scoring is in 3 areas, as with other Speaking questions, namely Content, which entails the accuracy with which you read the text. You also have Pronunciation, where it entails how well you pronounce English sounds clearly, and then there is Oral Fluency, which involves speaking fluently without hesitation, emphasizing the right words and phrases.
