What to expect during the treatment of teeth?
Going to the dentist is probably not your favorite thing. Most of you might even dread it! However, if you want to keep your teeth for a long time, you have no choice but to go in and get regular checkups at the dental clinic. I know how stressful it can be, so we are making this blog on what you can expect during the treatment of teeth. It will hopefully lessen your anxiety as much as possible.
Things to expect during your teeth treatment:
1. How long will the treatment take?
From teeth whitening to braces, the procedure time does vary from one to another, but most in-chair procedures take less than an hour to complete. Tooth whitening treatments are the fastest and can be completed in approx—1 hour. Veneers and Invisalign (teeth straightening treatment) take around 2-3 hours each.
2. How much does it cost?
Costs vary depending on how complicated your child's case is and how long treatment takes. 3. Will you feel any pain during the treatment?
The injections used to numb the teeth are no more painful than a routine injection at your dentist. However, you may experience some discomfort as the medication wears off. In many cases, you will be able to continue with your regular day-to-day activity, although we recommend avoiding scorching food or drinks for 24 hours after treatment. If you are experiencing pain, over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen can effectively relieve any discomfort.
4. Is this treatment permanent?
Teeth straightening is a permanent treatment because the teeth are moved through bone. When teeth move, they create new bones in their new positions. Therefore, your mouth will remain in this new state once your teeth need to be and braces/aligners are removed. However, it is essential to note that your mouth does change over time due to normal physiologic processes. Your teeth will continue to wear down; your gums will recede, and you may even lose some teeth. These changes can affect how your smile appears over the years.
5. What is the procedure for extractions?
The dentist will first numb the area around your tooth with a local anesthetic. Then they may numb up your gum tissue and jaw bone with a gel that makes it feel cold. You shouldn't feel anything during the extraction from this point forward.
Once the area is numb, your dentist will incise your gum tissue to expose the bone and tooth. Sometimes, if there isn't enough room to take out the tooth whole, the tooth will be taken apart to extract it.
Many patients experience discomfort during the treatment of their teeth; dental treatment can be a sensitive and uncomfortable time for some. The dentist or cleaning staff will make sure that you are comfortable during the treatment, asking you if you need to take a break at any given point. There will be some pain coming from the pressure of the instruments on your teeth, but this is a normal thing - ask your dentist how they can make you most comfortable.
