LONDON — Marilyn Monroe's lace-trimmed trousers and the hat John Lennon wore in the last Beatles photo are among more than 150 pieces of entertainment memorabilia that will go on sale later this month.
Bonhams said Tuesday that Lennon's black cowboy hat is expected to sell for between $15,200 and $19,000. It was worn by Lennon in August 1969 after the Beatles' last recording.
The cream pants that Monroe wore in the classic 1954 Classic Western movie "River of No Return" are estimated to fetch between $3,800 and $5,700 at a Nov. 22 auction.
A handful of rare promotional posters for the 2002 "Spider-Man" movie will also be on the auction block. The posters were printed prior to September 11, 2001, and were recalled after the terrorist attack, showing Spider-Man's view of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York.
The sale will also include movie posters for popular early 20th century films, such as "All Quiet on the Western Front" and concept sketches for the 1960s TV show "Thunderbirds."
"We are delighted to be able to sell such an important collection of TV memorabilia," Stephanie Cornell of Bonhams' rock and film division said Tuesday. "Very few have insight into the concept of such an iconic series."
Derek Meddings was a special effects supervisor at Thunderbird and also worked on Captain Scarlet, Batman, and Superman. The sale includes an original drawing of the Batplane he painted in Tim Burton's first "Batman" film, as well as a design for the Cox gun used in the 1977 James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me."
