On a chilly Sunday, my companion JMG and I embarked on an adventure through the East End of London, diving deep into the haunting history of Victorian times. As we meandered through the back streets, we were eager to unearth the grim tales that echoed from the past. It promised to be an enlightening experience!

Our inclination to explore new experiences together has always defined our outings. Last Valentine’s Day, we crafted a memorable three-part date: we conquered rock climbing for the first time, ventured into an ice bar where we donned whimsical coats, and indulged in a feast of chicken. This Sunday, we donned our warmest layers and gathered with fellow enthusiasts outside the Whitechapel Art Gallery in Aldgate East. Richard, the owner of Ripper Vision, which operates the Jack the Ripper walking tour, has been captivated by history since he was just 12 years old. His enthusiasm for the darker aspects of London's past was palpable, infusing our tour with energy and insight. Richard recounted how he had conducted an audition similar to the X-Factor, drawing in hundreds of Ripper aficionados and aspiring tour guides, all vying for a chance to share their knowledge. Being an effective guide requires not just information but also an innate ability to engage an audience and deliver the same chilling stories with fresh fervor time after time.

Recently, JMG and I had watched "From Hell," a film adaptation of Alan Moore's 1989 novel featuring Johnny Depp. Our walking tour was the perfect opportunity to delve deeper into the infamous tale of Jack the Ripper.
