Mass Communication is an academic study of the various means by which individuals and entities relay information to large segments of a population on a simultaneous basis. The growth of entertainment industry and media houses since the liberalization of the Indian economy has produced an unparalleled demand for students who are professionally qualified in the field of mass communication.
Until a decade back this course wasn't much popular but today the scenario has undergone a sea-change due to the huge job opportunities in this sector, driven largely by changes in media consumption habits of consumers. This demand in turn has facilitated the growth of many specialized institutions in mass communication.
With an increasing number of students taking up this course as their line of study many good institutions have cropped up across India. Though at present there is no dearth of job in this industry, but one needs to get an admission into a good college to find on-campus placements. There are around 100 institutions across the country providing a diploma in mass communication and a few institutions which provides a master's degree. As far as a satisfying job is concerned there is no difference in a diploma or a degree. But when it comes to taking up studies at the level of M.Phil or PhD, a master's degree is a necessity.
