Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)

Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is a technique for cutting off the blood supply for uterine fibroids to get them to shrink. Using a local anaesthetic and mild sedation a micro catheter is inserted into an artery in the right groin and into the two arteries that supply the uterus. Tiny particles of Poly Vinyl Alcohol are injected into the uterine artery and carried to the vessels supplying the fibroids so they become silted up depriving the fibroid of blood so they die and shrink.
