American Express (Amex) is considering joining the metaverse, allowing virtual transactions and the use of the Amex credit card for the purchase of NFTs in the metaverse.
AmEx has already filed seven trademark applications with the US Patent and Trademark Office in the NFT and metaverse categories. The trademarks include the company name, logo, and membership benefits.
They also list services and products like the "Centurion Black Card," an exclusive credit card with no spending limit, and the "Shop Small" program, a nationwide movement that supports small businesses and helps communities thrive.
This brings the famous company in line with its competitor’s brands like JP Morgan, Visa, and Mastercard who have already set their foot in the industry.
The American Express team also dabbled in NFTs, providing cardholders with a limited edition of 14 digital collectibles featuring SZA. This move demonstrates that the digital technology sector has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and is likely to maintain its popularity in the future.
