From Griffith Park to the coast, the Hollywood Hills, home to Beverly Hills, Bel Air, and several opulent old Hollywood homes, is where the majority of Los Angeles' great estates are located.
But in the last thirty years, a new breed of rural estates, expansive sea ranches, and stunning beachfront palaces have taken residence in the coastal hills of Malibu and Santa Monica Mountains at the north end of Santa Monica Bay. In comparison to the Cannes Film Festival, Malibu currently has more celebrities per square foot than just about anywhere else. From the Ventura County Line to Topanga Canyon, the Pacific Coast Highway offers a remarkable array of choices for outstanding ocean view residences.
Los Angeles' finest option for getting away from it all without leaving town is Malibu and the Santa Monica Mountains.
On the Palos Verdes Peninsula, which marks the southern end of Santa Monica Bay, are the only additional real estate properties in L.A.'s coastal communities. The peninsula, which is a massive promontory that can be seen from Malibu to Downtown and beyond, is completely surrounded by lower-elevation towns, historic mansions, and custom residences on the sea cliffs. Along South Bay's fabled "Strand," which runs from the airport to Palos Verdes, are beachfront residences with panoramic views. There are always many fantastic luxury view properties (and condominiums) available in all three of these cities because they all have low coastal hills.
In addition to being older, the coastal towns north of LAX have a wider range of personalities. Similar to South Bay, Venice and Marina del Rey also provide a selection of beachfront residences with piers, expansive white beaches, and lots of sunshine. However, Port del Rey is also the largest small boat marina on the west coast and the location of numerous significant brand-new high-rise homes.
Contrarily, Venice has a tendency to be funkier, more urban, and wildly eclectic than L.A.'s other coastal neighbourhoods. Depending on how you look at it, this might be both a suggestion and a flaw. The infamous boardwalk, which is largely commercial and high-density development, the well-known canals (the smaller), and the wildly renowned Abbot Kinney business district are all hallmarks of Venice.
The only significant downtown area on the bay is in Santa Monica. It is situated on a high cliff with a view of the water that is bordered by older high-rise apartment buildings. The beaches towards the southern part of the city by Venice are primarily high density residential areas as well.
Finally, the Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades neighborhoods in the north begin to resemble the kind of mansions and estates found elsewhere in the hills. Numerous historic and modern residences and estates with a rustic character may be found on the hillside overlooking the Pacific in Palisades, in particular.
