One Piece Odyssey - a great adventure

One Piece Odyssey is simply a turn-based JRPG journey through One Piece's past, which may be the perfect place to embark on this saga for newcomers to the franchise. One Piece Odyssey provides an account of a few events of this universe, which does not contain all five essential components of a story, but it is intriguing enough and covers a lot of ground. It is like new players will get a grasp of One Piece through small slices, this is why we say that Odyssey's story is known to be anecdotical, rather than linear. The method the authors decided to use is flashbacks. Significant past events of the series are referenced via flashback at various points of the overall game. One Piece Odyssey is a great adventure that will familiarize new players with most of the things they should know.

Odyssey's story begins with the Straw Hat Pirates in the middle of their latest ocean voyage. As they were embarking on their most recent ocean journey, the Straw Hat Pirates saw their ship sink under a huge storm. The game's protagonist Luffy and his team are now stuck on Waford, an island that is inhabited by two new characters: the big-haired, adventurer Adio, as well as the mystery-filled woman from the local community Lim. One Piece Odyssey relies so heavily on telling great stories of the past (as already mentioned), that the adventure in Watford alongside Lim and Adio feels as if it was something that was added on. Both Lim and Adio are perfectly serviceable characters, nonetheless, Lim grew on me throughout my experience with the game and I like him more. When the group first meets Lim, she turns the abilities of her crew into cubes and scattered them across the island like dragon balls.

In addition to bringing depth and complexity in combat, One Piece Odyssey smartly builds upon the standard combat system from the past, yet also contains its very own strategies, which all are worth the investment. I could be awed by the simplicity of classic turn-based combat in which every fight feels like a puzzle waiting to be solved by smart game and juggling. However, as far as difficulty goes, One Piece Odyssey doesn't really present a challenge. The combat system is a bit immature, and you cannot be just not leveled enough or over-leveled. Many opponents can be defeated with just one hit, which is too simple for my taste. Also, special opponents who provide a large amount of EXP could be used to farm.

Is One Piece Odyssey attached to the canon in general? In Tsuzuki's words "Regarding canonicity, it's not part of the story. It is very independent, making Odyssey its own canon, not a reference with regard to the manga and anime series." Considering that not too many things are canonical, Odyssey should not be judged on this criteria. One Piece Odyssey serves its purpose and it is one of the games of the series that is important at least in one sense: it familiarizes new players with the One Piece universe. It is overarching. Odyssey is basically a huge filler storyline, or an authentically canonical storyline the anime must insert in order in order to keep the show running each week.
