Are you looking for your alien number on Visa? Alien number can be found on the top right hand corner of your visa. But not everyone gets an alien number on a visa.
First, alien numbers are only assigned to non-citizens who seek residency in the United States through marriage, job, asylum, or family ties. You will be given an alien registration number regardless whether you qualify to live in the United States or not.
Alien registration number is also known as “A#”, “Alien Registration Number”, Or “A-Number”. If you are applying for your green card from inside the United States you will get your alien registration number on your receipt. If you are applying for a green card through marriage you will get your alien registration number in mail within 30 days of submitting your petition.
If you are applying for your green card from outside the United States it is only in this condition that you will get your alien registration number printed on your visa. All other applicants who do not seek residency will not get an alien registration number on their visa.
The USICS will use your alien registration number to track your petitions in the United States.
The alien registration number is not given to anyone except the non-citizens applying for residency. The only exception to this rule are students on F-1 visas. The students on F-1 visa can apply for an alien registration number if they seek employment along with their education.
Once you get your alien registration number, you can then apply for your work authorization permit which allows you to seek employment in the US. You can also apply for your Social Security Number at this point. Social security number is a number assigned to you by the Internal Revenue Services. They use this number to track your employment and tax liability.
