The Mardi Himal Trek is one of Nepal’s best short treks. It gives you close-up views of big mountains like Machapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli. The trail is peaceful, and not many people know about it yet, which makes it perfect if you want quiet time in nature.

The first time I did the Mardi Himal trek, I was surprised by how quickly the landscape changed—from green forests to high ridges with snow-covered peaks. It felt like a hidden path through the clouds.
Starting the Trek
Most people start the Mardi Himal Trek from Kande, which is about an hour’s drive from Pokhara. From there, the trail climbs slowly through beautiful forests filled with rhododendron trees. If you trek in spring, the flowers paint the path in red and pink.
You’ll pass through small stops like Pothana and Forest Camp, where you can enjoy warm food and local tea. The local teahouses are simple but welcoming, and the views keep getting better every day.
Reaching High Camp and Mardi Viewpoint
As you go higher, you’ll reach High Camp (around 3,580 meters or 11,745 feet). From here, the mountains feel so close, it’s like you can touch them. The air is fresh and cold, and the views are wide and clear.
Early the next morning, you can hike to Mardi Himal Viewpoint or even to Mardi Base Camp (4,500 meters / 14,764 feet). The trail follows a narrow ridge, with deep valleys on both sides. When the sun rises and hits the mountains, the whole sky turns orange—it’s a moment you’ll never forget.
