When you engage with your infant, you may notice that the baby makes eye contact for a few seconds and engages with you, responds to you and the baby also breaks eye contact after a few seconds of intense engagement. If you observe carefully, you may find these rhythms of connection/engagement and disconnection/disengagement naturally occurring in your baby’s interactions with the world. This rhythm is important for babies to connect not just with parents but with other adults as well. We understand the importance of connection and disconnection so we maintain similar practice at our infant daycare center, As important as the engagement phase of this rhythm is, the disengagement phase is also important, much like breathing out is as important as breathing in.
This rhythm helps the baby regulate the amount of stimulation it receives and processes, which is crucial for child development. We recognize this and that is what makes us best daycare in Pune. Each baby has its own rhythm and if we understand the unique rhythm of our baby, we can help the baby receive the right level of stimulation crucial for the child development.
Once we understand our baby’s needs, we can create rhythms of engagement and disengagement- activity and rest for our baby into their routines. At Aajol preschool and daycare we make sure that our infantcare educators, educate parents about after an activity of engagement, we can do something which allows our baby to disengage and soothe, eg. After playing with a stimulating toy, we can hum a soothing lullaby. We can also make sure that the child is not overstimulated closer to bedtime.
Breathe-in activities include engaging with stimulating educational toys, playing with another child, physical activities involving exercise for kids, screentime, engaging with a book, rocking/dancing to a lively song etc.
Breathe-out activities can include activities that soothe our baby, rocking gently, humming a lullaby, caressing our baby gently, hugging a stuff toy, hugging an adult, engaging with nature etc.
Activity:
- Identify breathe-in activities (activities that provide stimulation or opportunities for engagement) for your baby.
- Identify breathe-out activities (activities that provide disengagement from stimulation or opportunities for soothing) for your baby.
- Make sure you build a balanced flow of these two types of activities in your child’s routines.
- Observe when at a particular time when the baby is irritated or uncomfortable, if the cause is overstimulation. If that’s the case, use any activity from the breathe-out list.
- At Aajol we make sure that the flow of engagement and disengagement is well balanced and children do not get overstimulated by preschool activities making us one of the best InfantCare in Pune.
